Loving on HIV/AIDS orphans in Ethiopia

After finishing graduate school in Communications at the University of Oregon, Scott worked in the communications field in SW Florida for 22 years.  In 2004, he began serving Sanibel Community Church as Missions Team leader, but never expected to go into the field himself.  However, in 2006, God called him into full-time service in Ethiopia with Project Mercy.  While there, he received a vision and assignment from the Lord to help children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Gigi Haile is an Ethiopian national with a diploma from Commercial College.  She immigrated to England in the 1990s and upon receiving British citizenship and national Youth and Child Care certification (Level 3), spent over 15 years working in the government’s Foster Parent program.  She returned to Ethiopia in 2010 with an interest in serving her own country.  She is joining NMSI and with her executive and child care skills will serve Ethiopia Hope Village as Executive Director.

Scott and Gigi are partnering with a national Ethiopian Church to begin a “Village” for orphans, street children and other vulnerable children.  The vision includes an orphanage, youth center, sports fields and agricultural development projects.  Ethiopia Hope Village is a holistic ministry which is community born, empowering of local people, and self-sufficient in the long term.
