God has led Melissa on a path amazingly orchestrated to prepare her for a life in ministry overseas. She obtained a B.S. in Elementary Education and Bible, a TESOL (Teaching English as a Second and Other Language) endorsement, and an M.A. in Teaching with a Specialization in National Board Leadership. Since 1998, she has been in the educational field instructing, developing curriculum, leading professional development, and administering summer schools. During this time, she has trained and led several short-term trips in Latin America.
Melissa has felt God’s call to assist a church (Iglesia Gran Comisión) in La Ceiba, Honduras, where she will help them expand an existing nutrition program for the at-risk children (K-6 grade) in the community. She’ll also teach English which will include lessons in agriculture and computer skills.
Her vision is to enable these children to reach a higher income potential and thus sustain their families in the future. La Ceiba is the third largest city in the country with over 170,000 in population. If these children learn English, they can obtain employment as a taxi cab driver or as a hospitality worker. Tourism is on the increase and these service jobs will be in demand.
