Teaching in a village church Sunday service
José Ricardo grew up in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2000, he began to follow Christ and became involved in his church, Comunidade de Cristo in Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2004, shortly after he had finished law school, missionaries from NMSI led a seminar at his church about missions. José felt God calling him to become a missionary. In June 2005, José was sent by the Brazilian church to Timor-Leste, an underdeveloped Portuguese-speaking island in South East Asia. In Timor-Leste he began working together with the Labor Department drafting labor laws for the country. José specializes in International Labor Standards by the International Labor Organization (ILO), the United Nations (UN), and also works as a legal advisor to the ILO, in support to the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment of Timor-Leste where he has written several drafts of law. José Ricardo also works with the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other missionaries in Timor-Leste, especially regarding to legal advice.
In 2010, Jose Ricardo initiated a ministry called “Marketplace Fellowship” which is targeted to mobilize Christian professionals (UN, embassies, government, entrepreneurs, members of national and international organizations) and to involve them in prayer and fellowship. Since its beginning, representatives from diverse professional areas and from 30 countries have already participated in the meeting, including the Secretary of State of Labor of Timor-Leste.
Gailynn made her first trip missionary to Timor-Leste in 2001. Through YWAM she returned to the Timor-Leste in 2004 where she taught for a year at a village daycare. In 2007, while still with YWAM, she participated a program for “at-risk children in Brazil to prepare to return to Timor-Leste to work in the missionary project called “Casa Vida” (House of Life), a home for girls who have suffered sexual and domestic violence. Today, Gailynn develops work with the young mothers and babies who live in the House of Life, helping in the development and recovery of self esteem of the mothers and stimulating the physical/psychological development of its babies.
José Ricardo and Gailynn also support other ministries outside the capital where they develop activities in a local church and support activities such as health, water security, and education for the most needy in several villages.
José Ricardo is supported by a unique partnership that joined together to send this young Brazilian attorney to Timor-Leste—NMSI; Central Christian Church, in Henderson, Nevada; Norkenzie Christian Church, in Eugene, Oregon; and Comunidade de Cristo, in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil.
